Night Brunch
Night Brunch is a supergroup of local indie stalwarts and old friends that performs the catalog of A. Walker Spring, who sings from the drums, as she has since the mid 2000s, co-writing in bands Point Juncture, WA and Bitch’n.
For Walker, songwriting has been a steadfast companion - emotional processor, boredom destroyer, a place to voice her reverence / complaints, with tunes numbering in the hundreds, including many written for the Honest Jams podcast she co-hosted, which have found a fitting home in Night Brunch. It’s the first of her projects to combine her varied pieces, from awe-inspired ode to whimsical tale to righteous political screed. She has never felt more complete in a group (a rare and precious find for the cultural outsider: alcohol-free, two-decade-vegan, divorcée).
The band’s energetic live performances reveal a fundamental joy in the moment that grips you and hugs you with the nostalgic warmth of classic 70s riffs, the athletic prog basslines of Pony, and the jangular 90s guitar of Danny Aley.
Their signature 3 part harmonies range from heavenly chorale to experimental yelp, mirroring the variety of their genre hopping. Multi-instrumentalist powerhouse Sarah Fennell (Lost Lander) glues it all together with keys, percussion and her strong vocals, which blend with Walker’s and Danny’s to create the unique sound of Night Brunch.
Friends Friends
Friends Friends is a Portland-based band that specializes in noticing a feeling and making it a rock song. Since 2023, the 5-piece has been people-watching like Courtney Barnett, grooving like Dr. Dog, and howling out harmonies that sneak up on you like a hidden parade. At times delicate, maybe even charming, Friends Friends delightfully punches its way from delicate melodies into grittier psych and noisy rock n roll. Like flowers blooming in a basement.
